The most compelling argument I have been able to produce for myself is that it's puppeteering the body rather than actually affecting the mind - though the level of sustained biotic concentration (whilst simultaneously running and gunning) is so far beyond Barrier to seem implausible. But that ignores the protection granted by ME3's Reave, and the direct health-steal from ME2's version. Kaidan's Reave is certainly a good argument - though in my headcanon, ME1's Warp and ME3's Reave are the same power (sustained fluctuating Mass Effect fields dealing damage over time), whilst ME2 and 3's Warp is a sudden burst of much faster fluctuating fields.
